Musical Math
Teachers will place index cards with math problems around the perimeter of the room (problems face up). Have the students spread out around the perimeter of the room. Start the music and the students will walk in a predetermined direction (clockwise or counterclockwise). When the music stops, students will freeze and pick up the index card closest to them. The students will do the math problem then flip the card over to check their answer. As the music starts, the students will place the card face up on the floor and begin walking.
7 Days of Fitness
This game is good for this unit because there are a lot of vocabulary terms in this unit. Teacher will select a fitness activity for each day of the week. At the beginning of the day, the teacher will explain the exercise, go over new vocabulary words associated with the exercise, and perform the exercise ten times. Throughout the day, the teacher can call for a quick brain break and the students will perform the exercise the determined number of times. At the end of the week, the teacher can build a workout routine using the exercises from the week. The teacher can also assign students to record the exercises to complete at home, encouraging family and friends to join. Throughout the month, the teacher can allow the exercise leaders (student of the day) to select various exercises.
