Respect for Different Cultures and Faiths
I have taught at three Catholic schools in Lethbridge. I enjoy learning about the Catholic faith and the Catholic school community. I have learned about the Catholic faith and shown respect by:
-attending an optional staff prayer circle before school starts
-learning Catholic prayers in the morning with the students
-attending church mass with the students
-helping the students know what to do in church mass
-reading several bible stories in religion class
-organizing a decorated door with the nativity scene with individual stars with each students' name on them (made the students feel special)
I even got the opportunity to teach a lesson in Religion class about the sequence of the nativity for a grade one class. I read a bible story first outloud. I thought it would be interesting to have the grade ones role play the nativity to help them have a different way of understanding. For the last activity of the lesson, the students coloured and cut out the nativity scene to put it on a bulletin board. To finish my lesson, I handed out candy canes and poems that relates to the symbolism of a candy cane in relation to the nativity.

Building Relationships with Students
I value building respectful relationships with the students. I want to be a teacher that the students can trust,
On the first day, I try to set my expectations but also show them my interests and personality to build a strong rapport. I have shown either a powerpoint slide or a picture book to my students to show my interests, hobbies and personality. I have found this an effective way to create relationships with the younger grades.
I enjoyed getting to know the students interests as well. On the second day of class I went around to each student to ask them who their favourite Disney princess or superhero is and gave them a card with their favourite character at the end of the semester.
